A report by Chester County Voter Services has finally been released that identifies the source of electronic vote counting problems in the May 17, 2011 Primary Election - an extra dark blue “color bar” printed on Republican ballots . The counting glitch caused confusion over a Special Election to fill a Tredyffrin Board of Supervisors seat, as Democrat Molly Duffy appeared to be the early victor but a recount eventually revealed that opponent Mike Heaberg had won by a two vote margin.
Certification of the Special Election vote for Tredyffrin Supervisor should be announced this week after a complete manual count of ballots and full reconciliation by Chester County’s Voter Services. Molly Duffy’s 40-vote lead on election night has now fallen to a two vote deficit. Read Molly’s statement as she moves on to summer and the November race for a full 4-year term.
