I want to let you know about a Citizen Science event of environmental significance:  the annual Great Back Yard Bird Count (GBBC), held annually over President’s Day Weekend.  To learn more and find out how you can participate, come to a talk given by Audubon and Bird Town volunteer Phil Whitmer at Jenkins Arboretum.  The talk will take place next Saturday, Feb. 3, from 10:00 a.m. till noon.  You’ll learn why the Bird Count is important, what birds you’re likely to see and how to count them, and where and how to enter your sightings.  It’s easy and fun.  Phil will also have tips for attracting birds to your back yard and for ideas of locations outside your yard where you might spot some other bird species.  We always have a few goodies donated from local businesses to raffle as well.
