Wage Theft – Broken Laws, Unprotected Workers

As Americans, we pride ourselves on our work ethic, we value the dignity of work, but even now in the 21st century, we frequently fail to protect our workers. The core workplace protections that many of us take for granted are failing significant number of workers.

There is lots of talk and some action on minimum wage increases and overtime changes, but the one thing we rarely talk about is WAGE THEFT. Wage Theft has become an epidemic. The typical target is the poor, the powerless, the disenfranchised… This is something we expect to see in third world countries…but it has become all too prevalent here at home. In industries ranging from discount retail and food manufacturing to restaurants, child care, janitorial services and home health care, workers are enduring minimum wage and overtime violations and retaliation if they attempt to speak out.
